  5. Business Forum Bulgaria–UAE 2026 Kicks Off in Sofia, Signaling a Fresh Era of Deal-Making

SOFIA — The Grand Hotel Millennium Sofia buzzed with energy today as government officials, diplomats, investors, and business leaders from both sides of the Gulf-Balkan corridor gathered for the Business Forum Bulgaria–UAE 2026.

Organized by the Bulgarian Business Council in Dubai (BGBC) under the Dubai Chamber of Commerce, with backing from the UAE Embassy in Sofia and the Bulgarian Forum of Business Leaders (BFBL), the forum isn’t just another networking event. It’s the flagship moment of the “Strategic Business Growth” initiative — a deliberate push to unlock serious capital, forge real commercial ties, and move the Bulgaria–UAE relationship from polite diplomacy into concrete projects.

Twenty years on the ground changes how you see the opportunity

“As someone who’s built businesses in the UAE for over two decades, I’ve watched the landscape shift firsthand,” said Milo Borissov, Chairman of BGBC and founder of Palms World. “The Council exists for one reason: to help established Bulgarian companies scale internationally, and to give new ventures a credible path to partners, investors, and markets they couldn’t reach alone.”

That practical lens ran through the entire day. H.E. Abdulrahman Aljaber, UAE Ambassador to Bulgaria, didn’t stick to talking points. He pointed to the UAE’s track record of turning global headwinds into competitive advantages — infrastructure, regulatory agility, and a business ecosystem that consistently ranks among the world’s most attractive. “The potential with Bulgaria is immense, and we’ve barely scratched the surface,” he said.

From conversation to contracts: tech, energy, and manufacturing take center stage

The clearest signal of intent came from Minister of Innovation and Digital Transformation Ivan Vasiliev, who formally accepted an invitation to launch negotiations on a comprehensive bilateral agreement covering digital technologies, AI, and robotics.

Deputy Minister of Economy and Industry Mihaela Karadimova and Deputy Minister of Energy Krasimir Yakimov both underscored the same message: the pipeline is full. Energy, advanced manufacturing, high-tech — these aren’t speculative sectors. They’re ready for capital deployment and joint ventures now.

Bilateral trade has grown steadily year over year. Dubai has quietly become the launchpad for Bulgarian companies targeting not just the Gulf, but South Asia and Africa. Today’s forum made that pipeline visible.

What comes next

The day closed with B2B sessions that weren’t performative — they were transactional. Bulgarian and Emirati leaders walked out with follow-up meetings booked, term sheets in discussion, and a shared sense that the momentum is real.

The Bulgarian Business Council in Dubai isn’t stopping here. This was the opening chapter. The work starts now.
